Moissanite is a laboratory-grown gemstone made of silicon carbide (SiC). It is highly refractive (sparkly) with a refractive index of 2.65-2.69, as compared to a diamond, which has an RI of 2.42. Moissanite is also very hard and has a Mohs scale rating of 9.25, as compared to a diamond (10 on the Mohs scale) or ruby/sapphire (9 on the Mohs scale).
